In this series, we explore fire pumps. Why do we need them? How do they operate? What types of fire pumps exist? Why and when would we use each type? How do we supply and power fire pumps? We explore this and more in this 11-part series.
Our objectives include:
- Understand what a fire pump is, how they operate, and the purpose they serve.
- Understand the different types of fire pumps available and allowed today.
- Develop a working understanding for the components of a fire pump and what the best type of fire pump is for different project situations.

Jesse is a former career special-operations fire-rescue Chief Officer. After nearly 20 years in public fire protection, Jesse worked in High-Protected Risk (HPR) Engineering for major international property insurers conducting loss-control surveys worldwide. Currently, Jesse serves as the Technical Director / RME-G for Fire King, a fire protection company in the Austin, Texas metro area, and serves on several NFPA Technical Committees. Jesse resides on the north shore of Lake Travis northwest of Austin, Texas with his wife, three grown kids, one granddaughter, several dogs, two Sulcata tortoises, a couple normal cats, and one exceptionally advanced cat.
