TYPES OF FIRE ALARM SYSTEMS

In this series, we explore fire alarm system types and describe different system setups. What is the difference between Temporal-3 and voice? One-way and two-way communication systems? What is mass notification? What is conventional versus addressable? Manual versus automatic? In this intro-level series, we explore these terms and features of fire alarm systems.

Our objectives include:

  1. Understand the difference between temporal-3 and emergency voice/alarm communication systems.
  2. Understand what mass notification, one-way and two-way communication systems are.
  3. Understand the meaning behind conventional, addressable, manual and automatic fire alarm systems.

Mr. Yakel is President of Collings & Associates, a Fire Protection Engineering Consulting Firm located in Ventura, California. Mr. Yakel holds degrees in Fire Science Technology, Business Management, and is a graduate of the Firefighter 1 Academy. In addition, he is an ICC Certified Building Inspector and Plans Examiner, NICET Certified (#142617) Fire Alarm Systems Level IV, and holds California State Fire Marshal certifications. Mr. Yakel has over twenty eight years of experience in the fire protection industry. He lives in Ventura with his wife of 30 years and is the father of four adult children.
